Attempts to destroy AI to stop a superintelligence from taking over the world are unlikely to work. Humans may have to persuade AI into saving us.
Source: If AI attempts to take over world, don’t count on a ‘kill switch’ to save humanity
tl;dr: ai runs on highly distributed and highly resiliant geographically dispersed machines, so hard to shut them all off at once; still seems to me a big mechanical Big Red Switch on the power coming to data centers could be manually tripped.
fta:
There are more extreme measures that have been proposed to stop AI in an emergency. For example, an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack, which involves the use ofelectromagnetic radiationto damage electronic devices and power sources. The idea of bombing data centers and cutting power grids have also been discussed as technically possible, but at present a practical and political paradox
