to support my working more in the garagem, I beed a reliable internet connection. wifi is not cutting it out= there, even after mocving router1 down a bit to look thru the winddow better;l i think this helpoed, but still very diff tio get reliable video. plus Iwant ehternet everywhere
plan: run an outdoor rated (PVC?) cat7 or better cable from netowkr stack (SWITCH?-??) thru the ceiling in the cave &* l8andtry (ieally thru holes in the joists since I own the right angle drill AND a great speed bore bit… but the mess!)) then out thru a hole where all the other service some it (hopefully in a hole existing.
— 2025-06-30 – poked a fish wire in from the outsite, in the hole where there is a grey pair cable in a hole, i think this is cable Cogeco?. !!! not enough space to get the cat8 cable thru, MAYBE pull cable out (or cut and discard., since they’ll likely want to run it again it we ever change to cable?
— 2025-07-07 – Monday – the 2 gray cables ar indeed coax for cable/internet.. they both end in the laundry roo/cave wall. will unstable them, pull them back (!!!!! tape one of them to the cat8 cable and pull it out as I pull out the cable cable.)
NEXT – pull both coax out, wth the cat8 cable attached. roll up coax, maybe bag it, leave outside; pull cat8 along wall, under deck, then into garrage; probably need a new hole???
— 2025-07-10 – Thursday – Paul assisted in pulling the wire under the deck and into the garage; drilled a hole in garage front left corner wall, next to the electrical box, low enough to be bel.ow the first step. wire is just long enough to get to roof, so will need a switch in the corner fuur further expansion. but whay else do i need out there?
sadly, no pics!
!!!! note: if i put a hub out there, should try to keep it from rusting? or why bother given iot’sz a $25 device (5-port 1Gbps switch).
— 2025-07-12 – Saturday – i added a 25′ (10m?) cat6 cable using a F-F coupler; no sense in running cat7+ since laptop and my complete network are all 1Gbps. future me might upgrade, but doubtful…
sadly, no pics! but I did take this screenshot of ping ROUTER1 times as I plugged in the ethernet cable and the machine switch from WiFi to wired…:
