As part of the “early implementation agreement” announced Friday, The Beer Store — which currently has 440 stores across the province — has to keep at least 386 stores open until July 1, 2025. From July 1, 2025 through the end of that year, they have to keep at least 300 open. The following year? There’s no minimum store count mandated.

“From and after Jan. 1, 2026, TBS shall be entitled to close any retail location as determined by TBS in its sole and absolute discretion,” says the agreement.


The new agreement also gives The Beer Store the right to operate the Ontario Deposit Return Program until the end of 2030.
