Groups connected to the fossil fuel industry are trying to shape an international treaty to cut plastic pollution. And oil- and gas-producing nations are at the negotiating table.

mentions a plastic credit system that resembles cap & trade? how ’bout we just make the plastic makers/users/oil co responsible for the cleanup? sure, costs will be passed n to consumers, so need to convince everyone that prices will go up.

reddit post that I made in the disccusion thread on this story:

Agreed. Force the cost of cleanup and recycling to the producers. But make no mistake, this just means end user costs will just go up. No matter who has to fund this, the cost will drop to the consumer. How much? I have no idea. But it will be consumers that pay.So the real challenge is convincing consumers to accept these cost increases. I am not hopeful.

‘course, shouyld focus on where th pollution comes from. if these maps are accuracte, just getting the top-10 worst sources to be half as good as the best countries probably solves a big part of it. should likk to post on hwere the plastic poullution compes from.

meta: this is the 1st level post; i added 2 more posts (2nd & 3rd) so i could refeenrce them from herte. these 2nd & 3rd level (and further? deeper?) posts are usually something I want to post but never seem to get to. for the record, these 3 posts are ~1 hour wok, to the raw stage (typos, no concern for formatting or spell etc)
