More thoughts on UBI

This post on /. approaches what I’m thinking about regarding the “normal” work week of 40 hrs x 5 days a week.  Who said it had to be this way?  Why not 4 days x 8 hrs (not 4 x 10 as is often offered, since it somehow needs to be 40 hrs. week).

The whole capital/labour balance be shifted?   At a base level, capital wants to pay as little s possible; every penny not paid in wages drops right to the bottom line.  Since greed makes the world go ’round, this will be very hard to fight.

And of course the reverse is true; labour wants to be paid as much as possible.

I’m pretty sure this is an obvious thing to the well-educated.

When the balance shits too far to capital: riots, general strikes, eating of the rich.

When balance shifts to labour, ??? perhaps no incentive to spend capital, since cost of production will exceed sale-able; but all those labours have money so they’ll spend, driving the economy higher.
