I vaguely recall someone (PN?) saying the widening of the highway from Kolkata to Delhi (passing thru Durgapur) was to allow easier military movement.  Related?

Seem unlikely, since ~1500km, but I do note the AH1/19 highway, does indeed go from Kolkata > Durgapur > Delhi….
