Things I'm Interested In
I still don’t think water fluoridation is a good thing. It’s mass medication, and that seems somewhat suspect, but we’d have to think that one through. If you want fluoride for yourself and your family, then you should get it yourself. Besides, I believe it only helps when it’s in contact with your teeth, so really you should get it from toothpaste, or a gel, not from drinking it mixed with water.
If you’re going to add fluoride, why not add other things, like ascorbic acid (vitamin C) – I’m sure this would greatly benefit poor sections of cities that have very poor diets. Why not add trace elements that are found in multi-vitamins? Why has only fluoride made it into our water?
Lots of things are added to other things; iodized salt, Vitamin D, folic acid, more… Smart policy, guided by good evidence.
