ROKU 3 Notes

Recently, poor performance.  Network-related?

Wired connection to a ROKU-3 Model ????.  CAT6 cable from my main switch direct to ROKU

Performance expectation for ROKU-3 ?

Without going into deep details yet, what should I expect out of my fairly old ROKU 3?  Or my Plex setup.

I store all my media on a Plex server running on a dedicated PC (re-purposed HP Compaq Pro 6300 i3 with 4GB RAM).  ROKU is connected via CAT6 cable to a gigabit switch (TP-LINK TL-SG1016DE), where all other network devices connect.

As a rough guide, I can copy files from PCs to my NAS (XigmaNAS running on a different dedicated server of similar specs to the Plex server) at 100+ MB/sec, so I think my network “infrastructure” is sound.

But my ROKU 3 (Model 4200X) can’t play anything above 480p; any attempt at 720p or 1080p content fails.  Advertising copy foe this device sez “Plays 720p HD & 1080p Full HD Video”.

I need some guidance as to whether I should accept this performance level, or if I should be investigating further.  And if this sounds like a Plex problem, a hardware/CPU/disk problem, or a network/cable/switch problem.

Any suggestions welcome.
