“on spice storage down here… things that come in theor own resealable bags can stay in, and stored in larger mouse proof container (like the one i have the spices in) smaller qtys can go in the foil bags; again, all of them go into a plastic tub like above smoked paprika oregano dried crushed chili garlic powder or salt? WE HAZ: cumin, salt, pepper, chili powder, garam masala, kashmiri chili powder”

1. Spice Storage Notes & Guidelines

To maintain freshness, prevent pest intrusion, and keep the lower storage unit well-organized, follow this multi-tiered containment strategy:

  • Original Resealable Bags: Spices that arrive in their own sturdy, factory-sealed zip bags can remain in that packaging. They preserve freshness well and reduce unnecessary decanting.
  • Mouse-Proof Outer Containers: All primary bagged spices must reside inside a dedicated, rigid, mouse-proof container (such as the existing main spice tub). This provides a hard protective barrier against pests.
  • Foil Bags for Smaller Quantities: For partial spice quantities, loose bulk purchases, or smaller portions, transfer items into compact foil barrier bags. These shield sensitive spices from ambient light and moisture.
  • Plastic Tub Consolidation: Group all packaged items—both original resealable pouches and smaller foil bags—inside secondary plastic tubs within the larger container. This keeps small pouches upright, easy to audit, and simple to pull out when cooking.
