Vinay Kumar Gupta sent his brand-new electric SUV through three rooms of the daycare, striking two dozen children and three staff members before coming to a stop.
same problem has existed for a long time. press the accelerator while thinking you’re on the brake leads to a positive feedback loop (“wtf, car’s going fwd, so I press harder on the brake, goes faster, I press brake harder…”). cf: “Junk Science in the Courtroom” on the chapter about same sort of issue with Audi?BMW?
seems to me tere should be something like “fwd motion detected, moderate collision detected, cut power” might be possible. or make loud vroom vroom sound inside car when such happens
also, how is it that he wass jamming the acc pedal (this should be knowble given the ability to measure everything) in a suv yet only moving 15kmph might trigger some osrt of power limiting. somethign ain’t right, so… i mean, I used to setup machine that could detect a minor collision of a 20-tonne bridge and have it come to an instant stop, and that was 10+ yearws ago,
extra testing, age-based. sure. but i doubt anyone’s will to pay for it…
