— 2024-11-01 – Friday – any time I see videos or articles on old hardware, like PC/XT era, I try to recall the command used in DEBUG.EXE to start the “low-level” format on MFM controllers. Videos like this from Dave’s Garage.

Quick quiz: who recall the DEBUG command to start the MFM low-level format on a PC? I guessed wrong, but was close. Must be getting old

I guessed g c800:0, should be g=c800:5, which the MFM controller would be address as (by jumpers or switches, as the good lord intended!)

an MFM controller card (for an AT-class machine, given the 16-bit ISA slot); the addressing jumpers are probably the pin jumpers down near the notch in the ISA edge.
