According to data gathered during the solar eclipse of 2017, researchers found a 31-per-cent increase in traffic risks.
The report predicts an extra 125 collisions on eclipse day in Ontario than typical, considering an average of 400 daily collisions in the province. It also suggests the increased risk will extend to the day before and after.
Redelmeier noted a doubling in traffic risk at this time. His theory is people have their guard down after “all the excitement” of the eclipse.
