The Bear, The Tragically Hip, and my possible Gord Downie sighting in Algonquin Park.

Source: The Bear at The Museum After Dark.

summary by Google Gimini:

The speaker recalls a time they went camping in Algonquin Park with their wife Joan. While leaving the park, they saw a canoe heading in the opposite direction and had a fleeting thought that the man in the back might have been Gord Downie, the lead singer of the Tragically Hip. The woman with him was wearing a long white dress. Here’s a breakdown of the main points:

  • Misfiled song: The speaker was listening to a song that reminded them of Algonquin Park, which is referenced in the lyrics.
  • Algonquin Park trip: They share a memory from a camping trip in the park, where they explored new routes.
  • The sighting: On the way out, approximately 50 meters away, they saw a canoe heading into the park. The man in the back had some resemblance to Gord Downie, but the speaker acknowledges it was from a distance.
  • Uncertain Possibility: The speaker emphasizes that they have no real evidence it was Downie, and it was just a fleeting possibility that crossed their mind.
  • Missed opportunity: Despite the curiosity, the speaker and their wife were paddling in the opposite direction and decided against approaching the canoe out of respect for privacy.
  • Understanding: The speaker understands the desire for peace and quiet, especially in a natural setting like Algonquin.

original voice-to-text transcription, using Windows11 “Voice Typing”, Galaxy ear buds, with music playing realitively loudly on dektop soundbar (moe. – Jazz Wank > Spine of a Dog > Buster); once again, impressive!

Check Jack. okay. So as I was listening to this song, the bear. two problems I had. One was it was misdeed in my library and I was able to correct it. which is always cool. And then I was reminded that this has a reference to Algonquin Park, which you can see up in the references there. which leads me to a story that I or a memory that I have about when Jon and I went to the Gulf of Park. I think it was the first trip where we could a little ways up to the path of new trails or the new routes to other island or little corner someday I should plot this all down where it was. on the way out. I recall as we were probably on the last leg just after probably 10 minutes from getting to the to the. place where you turn your communities the I saw perhaps 50 meters. away heading in so they would have been heading into the park where if we were heading out after three nights or so. I saw now that’s a canoe probably I don’t think it was a rental. It seemed like it was a nice personally owned canoe in the back was a guy who although 50 years away and wearing you cat like a sun hat or a white brimmed straw hat was a guy that had the facial shape of Gordown and I could almost make out that **** grin that he had that shady grin that he had. in the front was a woman who couldn’t tell much about her. She’s wearing an all long white dress I don’t think she was paddling I seem to think she was sitting back kind of relaxing and enjoying the ride. I have no idea what Gordon Downey’s wife looks like or another girlfriend at the time and of course I never we were kind of not struggling but it was not like something I was going to do and say hey Joan Let’s turn over and paddle to those guys and see if it’s some rock star that I know but because that’s just something I don’t like to do and Gordonian and his way for heading in Douglas Park forever. I just get away from the hospital. Buffalo Touring and Kingston model ever to hell they would have maybe I that’s one of the things I just think I can just leave a person alone even though it would be very interested to pull up the side or Downey and his wife as they were heading into a camping trip. I have a small discussion and a small connection with somebody who turned out to be a very influential. I was very powerful figure in the Canadian. Rock and roll so far. So again I have no idea who was. I sadly. don’t have a picture. This is free cell phone diamond. I know we probably have to climb up with us, but I obviously had it with the new way to go being in a new. so I have no picture of this. I have no proof of this but I just have a feeling that maybe that was Gordon in this fight. A small opportunity was missed but so would be done.

route to getting here this morning: tought about Paul meniotning “brewers droop” in the Dire Straits song “Induistrial Disease”, which a know well, first purchased on cassette whgen I was in the army (link to army guy store about my “satchel” wehre I carried my Sony Walkman, ~10 cassettes, and a few paperbacks, and the hilarity that caused at the Edmointon airport whenb J and i were returning from tree planting and a large lanter battery with twiest red&black wires as we went through security, cause a bit of concern, since this was abour the time of the lockerbie boming?? and this army style satchel looked like a bobm.) > realize I don’t have the album in my library (Lover Over Gold > get fromthe usdually pitaers > while writingh about that, startedf playing from local library, tragically hip live stuff, heard mention of ALgonquin Park (in The Bear from Musinc @ Work), triuggering this menmory and others.,
