the sonoff SNZB-02 temperature & humidity sensor has a small reset button; must use to connect to ZigBee hub. these are simple, not WiFi, cheap (30$C for 2, and now a version with a display is 2 for ~40$C model SNZB-02D), but this reset button is poorly implemented. in short, pressing too hard? can pop the pcb-mounted button off the pcb, so no can connect or reset. i managed to ruin one on the first press, as if the pb wasn’t even soldereld on. and i’m being gentle.
easy to have replace via amazon.ca. but i want a better solution.
i will add a small bit of 2-part epoxy putty around/behind the pb; this should keep it in place. i am loathe to use ca glue since such a small part and worried thin ca will wick up into the switch mechanism. maybe try thick ca and accelerator?
warning: NSFW, NSFL – this is a really ugly hack. or bodge. maybe it’s jugaad? i’m embarrassed to do this. but the alternative is to go round and round with amazon.
below is my attempt on a new one. works! was able to do reset/pair with hub cycles 3 times. still pressing very gently.
maybe should tell sonoff?
