Belkin 750VA UPS

2023-04-02 – on power outage, the network stack went off, ups did not hold power up; suspect battery is nfg.

2023-04-06 – remove from network stack, replace with the space that Joan was using (wtf should I use my equipment for a comapny that won’t provide); it has good battry (tested to 8.34Ah using my cheap chinese load tester).

2023-04-09 – do I misunderstand UPS ratings? If I have a750VA UPS running a 40w fan (0.85pf so 40/.85 = 47VA); so I should get 750VA/47VA = 16.9 hours? But in practice, I get no more than 1h30mins!?

turns out indeed i are misunderstanding…. the 750VA rating on a UPS is the load it will support for some defined time. So for this UPS, it will provide 5 mins at 1/2 load (375VA). So a 47VA fan might run 375 / 47 * 5 = 40 mins

2023-04-10 – tested comms with Blekin APM v2.5; works; was able to do a self-test; not much other monitiring possible.

Keep as spare.

Raw notes follow:

belkin 750va charged up itself, run fan (40W, 0.85pf, 47va), 750va/47=16hrs (expected); start: 15:36, off: 16:23, so 47 minutes runtime. WTF?
test ups comms on balrog; device manger detects; install Belkin aPM software v2.5; is recognized, set a 10min selft test

40w/51VA fan on 16-26-00, off 17:23, so got ~57 minutes @ 51va/40W

apc, start 17:50, off 5 mins later.
the battery in this one is likely nfg. but has barely been used? m easured 6.0 Ah 2022-06-04, so ~10 months., recharge, ~3 hours; 8.34Ah tested; recharge; in UPS for powering fan: ????

what are y expectations for an APC-brand UPS with APC-brand replacement batteries purchased from Amazon.ca.
First, if I charge the battery (insert into UPS, wait a few hours, sez battery is charged. remove from UPS, use cheap load meter, test at 1A draw, get 6.5Ah. Repeat
sendon. I got ~10 months out of this battery. Unless I missunderstnad, it hans’;t gone thruogh very many cycles; maybe twice in the year we had a power fail long enough to have the UPS shut down. it might be doing self tests; didn’t have that ups monitored, since wive’s thin client and can’t install powerchute.
