I think the use of Bahgdad Bob here without the words in the image (typically “Nothing to see here…) shows what a meme really is. The mere image of Bahgdad Bob invokes the “this guy is lying through his teeth” sense, but ony people in on the meme will get it. I tyhink a meme requires the mind virus be spread wihttout explitilty saying it in the image. same with the “why not both” girl… not even the image is required… you will typically see it posted just as the filenamje, like “whynotboth.jpg”, not the image, not the image withg the text, or the original aniomated version. the mere filename carries the meaning of the mind virus, or the meme. otherwise, it’s just a joke, or a cartoon.
