Why are we dealing withb the text/graphic dichotomy?

Some stuff is text. Some stuff is grpahic/bitmap/binary/not-seaxchable. Why????

i think I have written on this before. on blog? in s.o.c.?

I wrote this in order to have a link in this post where I talk about this problem trying to record my thoughts on this text/graphics dichotomy on a really good BoingBoing BBS post.

for those that shrug about this, consider trytng to explain to someone why they can’t coopy/select/paste from the Windows 11 (or any) Task Manager:

or whay can’t I swipe across the text names of the SSIDs:

‘course, the reason given is well, that’s a grpaohc image of the text, not “actual” text. therefore, one must capture it as agraphic image (link to Greenshot, the bext damn screen snipper evar!), which then must be saved as a file or pasted into a app that can accept them (probs not likely in to an email, but seems like most chat apps are frieldy as grahic drop targets0.

again, try to explain the differences between “text rendered in an image’ vs “actual” text. to your mother. or grandmother. or a completely computer illiterate?
