So as i watch the Russians attempt to encircle Bahkmut, I am once again curious to how this relates to local distances.

Here’s 4-5km from our house (note the difference in scale; would be better to scale both to the same):
So the Ukrainians in Bahkmut have a corridor as wide as from our house to Little Lake to withdraw if they are going to. Which as of 2023-03-03, they don’t seem to be. It could be the Russians are pausing here to allow the withdrawal, since it seems to be inevitable.
