So while reading an article about some USA politics thing, I stumbled across this passage (the important part highlighted; the story itself is not the point here…
I’ve always wondered how to make the -ing suffix? work correctly with words end in a vowel. Like “office” becomes “officeing?” or “officing?”, but both look awkward (Chrome spell checker sez the former is wrong and the latter is a possible correction.). The latter is acceptable with the sorta-vowel “y”, so “pinkying” locks ok, if even a word. This apostrophe usage, dropping the vowel (offic’ing) above is interesting. But is it correct English spelling or grammar. What do style guides show?
