The amount of water that has left the Great Lakes since its recent record high levels is staggering. It equates to three years of entire global water use.

Contextless headline is useless!
The great Lakes have ~22,671 km3) water = 5.989045e+15 US gallons. 20T / 5.989045e+15 = 0.3%. so not nothing, but not huge either. also, the last few years have been historically high levels, so it would be interesting to compare to the long-term average levels.
