I propose that self-driving cars will not gain wide acceptance ever due to the lack of self-preservation; when humans drive, we assume other drivers have an equal desire for self-preservation. I do not beleive it will ever be posible to build such capability into AI, no matter the increase in processing power.
The very definition of evil is someone who would take a child for a car ride and NOT drive with an abundance of care. With the exception of sociopaths (?) or suicidals, we trust others aren’t going to do something potentially fatal to themselves or others in the car
