Canada Post Revenue, 2019

Using the 2019 numbers from the 2020 finacial report might seem odd.  But, as the repost mentions, 2020 was an odd year due to COVID-19 (25% up in parcels, 9% down in “transaction mail”).  But even with the 2020 numbers, same-ish results (3434 + 2844 = 6278 / 809 = ~7.8), meaning junk mail is ~1/8th a revenue input as the letter & parcels business.

I would happily do without the Direct Marketing (junk mail).  This series of tubes called the “internet” is much better (I’m pretty sure it will catch on).  And given it’s small-ish revenue contribution, it wouldn’t be missed.

Perhaps junk mail is insanely profitable?  Can’t see that, given all you’re saving is collection (advertisers likely deliver in bulk, probably already sorted, or sorting not required for un-adddressed everyone-get-the-flyer pcs) and sorting.  Still need to walk each pc to each address.
