Omicron: The sample of the male passenger, who returned to Manipur from Tanzania on December 13, has tested positive for the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Not sure how the indian vaccines are against omicron. or if lots of already infected and recovered will keep the deaths down. also, I belive India is younger on avg, as is south afrrica (which might explain why vast majority of cases there are very mild, cold-like.)
