seems to me there are at least 2 biases or distortion or underestimations in assessing how things are going w.r.t c19, :
first is the delay. we are always reactiong to info that is already 2 to 4, perhaps even 6 weeks old. by thwe time we do something, it’s already to late, and certain ubad outcomes are baked in. simlar to how agwwill happen; even if we all decided it was real and 100% stopped emitting ghges, tsome larger than we;’d like increase in temp rise is inevitable, it will happen, and the onsequence for humans could be dire. the ship takes a long time to turn around, so even if we started tomorrow, net 0 gg=hg releases, it will take a lng time on human scaletime, perhaps not even starting to correct in the lifetimes of those just coming aware of the problem/ so my generation will never see the reslts of efforts to reduce ghg emmissions, maybe even my offsprings generation won’t see it. thi shit is happening on global times frmes geographical time scales the are incomprehensible to our ~80 year of experience. so much sho that our, my kids generatiosn will regret and revolt against the suffereings (even though those sufferings are likely unreal not real. sure, coal mining is not going to be your family’s job andy more; building and installing solar cganring stations, building ev charging infrantstrive, solar power, wind poer, all above d=ground, hands on, salt-of the earth jobs that should pay well and have a very good future.
2. second is we are all going to get exposed toc19.any, but likely c19.omicron; persoanllyu J & I are 2az+1pf boosted, and I ain’t leaving the hse for a while. but the iunvaxxed, and the unboosted, may have little protection. but sill lots of mild cases, like a minor cold. many cased are found indeidenly as by product of going to hospital for something else and being tested (good on SA for diligent testing!) but if there re 50M usian no fully .omicron-vaxxed (boosted, iow), and 10% of them rquire hospitalization, that’s 5 million hospital beds over the nect 5 monts (to make the mathc nice) i ~1M in hospital n=beds of various intensity levels. Likely holds for canada at the usual 10:1 rario, so 100K anucks each month. Maybe 605 of that due to our better vaxx + booster prnetration, so 60K hodpital beds per month.
of course that math above could be way odff. numbers bupulled strait from my ass here.
3. must write the WHO on my mask simplifcation idea.
4. the fear of ruining xmas. no western leader wants to be the one that puts the kibosh on xmas for the 2nd yyear in a row.
5. no one has the right to focre a vaccine into soeone. b ut we have the right a s asociety to expect certain rules and norms, and one of those things is follow the science like most rartionale people will. so you don’t have to get vaxxed, but your in a self-inflicted stay ant home order (not lockdown, ffs!!! insert standa rd rant on why lockdown is a bad choise of cwords.), you will not come into contact with outers, you will not go to bars, parties, funerals, etc. until this pandemics is called over by those sameso scienticians.
we do this without hesitating for many, many things, not just drugs but reuiqements to show proficientcy, the basic right to not offend , recall my rant on n=we can see each other’s weieners pretty much univerally.boobs maybe, like here in canada.
