Neural link example the expanse
– was just watching an episode of The Expanse, s4e06, at the beginning, when I came up with how I think NL device could work…. a character quickly calculating how long the shock wave or other result of a huge explosion (the planetary pimple); NL device could be looking up the numbers (diamerter of, circumference of, and then be pre-calcing the various results (given dia, calc circumference) and having these nuber ready to be interjected into the train of thogught and perhaps even be auto-added to when your speak in real time. for instance, she works out the time to impact of the wave coming directly from the expolsion (from a small distance circumference wise, the “short way ‘roubd”), as 2 hours, then quickly gices the estimate foe the showkwave that will travel the long way roubd.
the NL interface could hear she’s thinking about circumference, so looks up directly or calcs from diameter, and then preps shockwave time for long way round.
similar to how I was thinking the NL interface can be pre-fetcing images, other info about what I’m taling about or thinking or watching. but I’d need to turn this off when I don’t want it.
and I’m thinking the images woukld just appear in the “mind’s eye”. like one can “see” an image of the tulips in the front yard just be imaging. but at what fidelity? maybe small flirting images overlaid on the eye’s external vie, with an easy way to summon them to what ever resolution and fidelity required.
with textua; numberic info, the vsalues or text could just “be” in your memory. think of the circumerence of planet X, boom! it just appearsi in your train of thought. Or the exact text of some famous quote just appers in your mind, ready to be spoken.
BUT, here’s wherer I don’t think that is “itelligence”… the full text of the constitution could be “in” my brain, but without reading it over and over again, withiut hereing about related doxuments (Ch of rights & freedoms, say),without contrasting it to other similar dicuments, wothout discussing it with other ennthusiatst and experts, there’s bo “interlligence”.
Just like owning all the books in the world doesn’t make you smart. Still ned the work. the errot. the 10000 hour s to become a suject-matter expert.
