“Contrary to popular belief, an ice age is not caused by extremely cold winters. Rather, it results from thousands of years of lukewarm summers. When summer temperatures in the northern hemisphere fail to rise above freezing, the winter snowfall doesn’t melt. Instead, the old snowfall compresses under the weight of the new. This immense pressure forms sheets of ice, making it even more difficult to melt in the next summer.”
