The problem: how can we get people what they want and need? It turns out that the simple short-term answer is the market. The marketplace makes it possible to buy a nail clipper made of hardened st\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So what’s the answer?\u00a0 Seth describes “unfettered” capitalism (growth and profits at all costs).\u00a0 Seems to me the role of government is to guide, ensure, and enforce fairly rules that ensure all capitalism is directed towards the greater good.\u00a0 What’s that called?\u00a0 Is it possible?\u00a0 Is there anyone doing it this way?<\/p>\n

For instance, can we harness the power of the capitalist “marketplace” to drive down the costs of, let’s say, medicine.\u00a0 Capitalism drove the cost of Lasik surgery to $500\/eye (??).\u00a0 The joke is this sort of discount surgery is less safe.\u00a0 But roll of government should ensure best practices, safety, and such are followed.<\/p>\n

But will this not lead to a two-tier system, one for the rich and one (assumed to be less good) for the rest of us?<\/p>\n

Also ties into my idea that “a market will always develop” if we let it.\u00a0 And capitalism will ensure the most efficient use of every resource.<\/p>\n
