Only if they persuade us that they actually want a deal, not to subjugate our country, and that they would honour whatever was agreed to.<br>&#8230;<br>None of this is to suggest Canada should be unwilling to bend on anything. A good, fair agreement requires flexibility on both sides. But we need to know where our red lines are. And these fundamental issues of sovereignty should not be bargaining chips.<br>&#8230;<br>This will be hard. It will hurt. But there is no other way. This is a fight for all Canadians \u2014 not Liberals or Conservatives, not Ontarians or Albertans, not francophones, anglophones, or newcomers, but Canadians. We didn\u2019t ask for this fight. We don\u2019t want it. It\u2019s depressingly counter-productive. But it\u2019s here. And the only way we\u2019ll get to the other side is if we stay together and fight as one.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We cannot assume Americans will make better choices in future elections.
