paul<\/a> gave me this. was his ?father’s ?utility truck radio, likely some sort of municipla level comms systme like used for taxis, etc. might even be one-way receive olny?. i think it might make a neat speaker for the drive-in, seems to have the 1970s vibe. put a small fm radio module, recharchable (usb-c ffs!), lithium regarhcabl;e, and maby even a sort length of cable to complete the facade?<\/p>\n\n\n

challenge: the only drive in we attend (Lindsay Twin Drive-In<\/a>) no longer has poles? or only has some in 1 or the other screen. or maybe not in front row we prefer. i know i’ve seen them, since i worry about being too far forward such that hits the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

find the pic or the blogpost on how people don’t understand the purpose of the post. i know i have a pic taken at the port hop drive-in, so pre-2023~, where a car in front of us was parked exactly between the posts that still existed (no speakers, since FM radio). and i noticed this was how many were parked this way. i but you could tell the age of the driver by how close they parked to the post… near=>50, between<50. sadly, due to not being tagged correctly, if at all, i cannot locate said pic. and i thought it might be a blog post here, but simple search didn’t locate it. sigh…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

— 2026-02-08 – Sunday – rec’d a cheap battery powered AM\/FM radio:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

rec’d this simple am\/fm\/sw radio; tested, works. very poorly designed tuning pot is very sensitive, like thy might have used a 100k pot instead of a 10k and therefore there is a small range where it actually tunes on the 100Mhz range; i put a small dot on the pcb that’s where FM101.5 The Wolf<\/a> is coming in at. also, poor audio quality esp at any volume; will see how it tunes the really poor transmitter at the drive-in<\/a>.
