Why don’t we speak money values the way we write them numberically (speaking as a white cis male, of course):<\/p>\n
We write a fiver as “$5” or “$5.00”.\u00a0 If we’re including a currency, it’s “$5 Canadian”.\u00a0 But we read it or speak it as “five dollars”.\u00a0 But it should be “dollars five”.<\/p>\n
We don’t do this with mass: “5kg” is “five kilos”.\u00a0 We don’t do this with length: “2m” is “two meters”.<\/p>\n
