One group, many names<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>tl;dr: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Daesh is essentially an Arabic acronym formed from the initial letters of the group&#8217;s previous name in Arabic &#8211; &#8220;al-Dawla al-Islamiya fil Iraq wa al-Sham&#8221;.
