Another\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondplastics.org\/publications\/us-plastics-recycling-rate\" target=\"_blank\">recent study<\/a>\u00a0estimates that <strong><em>just 5 to 6 percent are successfully recycled<\/em><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Both the U.S. and China are now producing a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/6b3f4405-a994-4fb1-b667-1f49c5357db8\" target=\"_blank\">surplus<\/a>\u00a0of the industrial chemicals, like ethylene, used to make popular plastics such as polyethylene, to the point that <strong><em>new (\u201cvirgin\u201d) plastics are cheaper than recycled alternatives<\/em><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Solution: make plastic makers pay for 100% recycling.  They will pass these costs down to consumers.
