bad news and all, but bravo! to the folks at Bloomberg for giving us the context we need. i don’t evenneed to read the story to get a good idea how bad this season is. Contrast this to the utterly meaningless TWN graphic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

unless i have a working knowledge of the average # of fires typical in these regions at this time of the year (note also the very common lack of a date, so I have no idea when this is when I am seeing this on other media, not live like here), this graphics tell me nothing. might even be a good year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but need to check this against other available stats? for instance, here’s something from CNFDB<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a quick look at that graph suggests ~4.5Mha average last 10 years, so the article is suspect; but then this is just june beginning, so need to know how much fires happen as the dsummer progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

covid-19-related… is the very small burnage in 2020 a result of pandemic stay-at-home? if so, this further bolster the idea that most of these fires are human-caused, in which case we can stop most of them by not being aqn idiot, as the NB premiere said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
