And we are structuring our contracts in a way to enable that to happen,\u201d Farmer said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>seems reasonable&#8230; what is cost to maintain some (what percentage of current?) to be cold backups, so maintained by being fired up up a few times a year?  is this even psossible?  or pehaps just runs them in really low power mode, so more of a &#8220;warm&#8221; backup instead of a fully off-line &#8220;cold&#8221; backup?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Ontario will need between 5,120 and 6,470 megawatts of storage to achieve a net-zero grid by 2035, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/61f81e15f490ed3db8dadda2\/t\/6345a24b3ee2440f883c885f\/1665507916398\/2022+Energy+Storage+-+A+Key+Pathway+to+Net+Zero+in+Canada.pdf\">a study put out by Energy Storage Canada<\/a>&nbsp;last year.<br>&#8230;<br>The road to net zero is paved with clean electricity. Ontario\u2019s grid is already 90 per cent non-carbon-emitting but getting to 100 per cent net-zero power will involve compromises. The question is whether these compromises will be so big,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/canada\/2023\/04\/23\/will-new-gas-plants-deprive-ontario-businesses-of-billions-in-tax-credits.html\">they\u2019ll undermine the effort<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>we&#8217;re planning for 1200~ MW storage in these contracts in three years for these battery contrxts.
